Alteraciones físico-químicas de la columna de agua, generadas por el uso del Boliche (Método de Pesca Artesanal) en la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, Caribe colombiano OceanDocs

Con el propósito de evaluar los impactos generados por el uso de un método de pesca artesanal denominado "boliche" en la laguna costera tropical Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, se cuantificaron diferentes aspectos; uno de los cuales fue orientado a analizar algunas alteraciones físico-químicas de la columna de agua, producidas durante la maniobra de pesca. Se determinó la concentración de oxígeno disuelto, la transparencia del agua y la concentración y composición del seston, antes y después de 70 lances de boliche. Los resultados indican que la maniobra de pesca genera algunos cambios momentáneos de poca repercusión en el ecosistema, tales como resuspensión de partículas principalmente inorgánicas, aumento de la concentración de seston y en consecuencia...

Approche de la capacité trophique dans un bassin ostréicole (Baie de Bourgneuf) ArchiMer

Une étude spatio-temporelle a été menée de mars 1990 à mars 1991 sur deux stations ostréicoles (nord et sud), de la baie de Bourgneuf. Cette étude se divise en deux parties distinctes : - L'une, hydrobiologique a permis, par des prélèvements hebdomadaires à basse mer plus trois heures, de caractériser les masses d'eau qui baignent chaque point d'étude, - L'autre, a eu pour but d'observer, par un suivi mensuel, l'évolution de la croissance, de l'engraissement et de la mortalité d'un échantillon d'huîtres (Crassostrea gigas) élevé sur chacun des secteurs; L'examen des résultats obtenus amène aux constatations suivantes :  - Le secteur nord présente un milieu hétérogène d'une richesse nutritive importante mais est accompagnée d'une charge sestonique minérale...

CONCENTRACIÓN DE MERCURIO TOTAL Y METILMERCURIO EN SEDIMENTO Y SESTON DE LA BAHÍA DE CARTAGENA, CARIBE COLOMBIANO* Boletín de Investigaciones

En Colombia, la bahía de Cartagena es uno de los ecosistemas costeros más influenciados por la contaminación con mercurio (Hg). Con el propósito de identificar el estado ambiental de la bahía de Cartagena, en este estudio se determinó metilmercurio (MeHg) y mercurio total (HgT) en sedimentos superficiales y seston, durante cinco muestreos (febrero, abril, junio, julio y octubre), en cinco estaciones (Zona Industrial, Frente al Dique, Centro, Boca Chica y Tierra Bomba), dentro de la bahía, durante 2006. Los resultados señalan que el promedio de HgT en los sedimentos fue 0.18 ± 0.01 µg/g p.s y en seston fue 0.16 ± 0.002 µg/g p.s. En ambos casos el 10% corresponde a MeHg. In 1979-1980, the main growth o oysters Crassostrea gigas, in the basin of Marennes-Oleron occured in June and July. The available amount of food and the energetic requirements for the reproduction are important factors determining growth. Tissue weight decreased after spawning until the end of the winter, and this decrease might be related to the high quantities of inorganic particles, in the seston, at that period of the year.

The uptake and release of material by oysters (Crassostrea gigas) in the intertidal zone were estimated in situ in the Bay of Marennes-Oléron (France) in spring and autumn. 10 m long plexiglass tunnels were placed over small tables with bags containing oysters or empty oyster shells (control). Although in the very turbid conditions of the water column sedimentation of suspended particulate material could be observed in control experiments, higher fluxes (uptake) of seston, POC and PON and especially chlorophyll occurred in the presence of live animals. In situ suspension feeding behaviour of the pearl oyster, Pinctada margaritifera: combined effects of body size and weather-related seston composition ArchiMer

In situ clearance rate (CR) and biodeposition of the black pearl oyster, Pinctada margaritifera, were followed during several field experiments from 1996 to 1998 in the lagoon of Takapoto. Serial measurements of total particulate matter (TPM, mg l(-1)), particulate inorganic matter (PLM, mg l(-1)), and particulate organic matter (POM, mg l(-1)) were related to meteorological conditions, especially wind speed. As a general case, POM and PLM increased with wind speed. Nevertheless, PLM increased faster than POM so that the organic content (OC, %) of the TPM decreased progressively when wind speed increased. La biodéposition liée à l'exploitation des filières de moules est responsable de l' accumulation de particules fines dans l'environnement marin. Cette biodéposition consiste, à travers la formation de feces et de pseudo feces, en un transfert de particules sestoniques, de la tranche d'eau vers le sédiment. Au cours de ce travail nous avons étudié l'influence des cycles de marée et de l'intensité de celle-ci sur la biodéposition, à travers la mesure de flux verticaux de particules. In 1979 and 1980, the characteristics of the particulate organic matter are defined fortnightly through seston analyses. It is very high in the basin and very low in the finishing ponds. The phytoplanktonic biomasses are maximal in May in the estuary, and in June-July in the finishing ponds, with chlorophyll contents 10 times higher than those monitored in the basin. Proteins are generally the main biochemical components found in both environments, with glucids accounting for 20 % and lipids for only 10 % of the biochemical components on average. El bentos, epifiton, seston, las algas filamentosas libres y las plantas acuáticas proporcionan recursos alimenticios y refugio al resto de los niveles tróficos del arroyo. Aquí estudiamos el efecto de una sequía sobre su biomasa y composición elemental en el arroyo Pampeano La Choza, comparando el año 2007, con ~1200 mm anual, y el año 2008, con ~600mm anual (40% menos que el histórico). Variability in particle retention efficiency by the mussel Mytilus edulis ArchiMer

Seasonal variation in blue mussel, Mytilus edulis, retention efficiency (RE) responses to natural seston concentrations were investigated in the Lysefjord, Norway. The smallest particles shown to be effectively retained (100%) were approximately 7 μm and this was observed on only one occasion. The most common response was for RE to progressively increase from small to large particles with maximum RE at 30 to 35 μm (8 of 12 experiments). Temporal changes in the seston size distribution towards a dominance of smaller particles coincided with a decrease in the RE maxima to particles between 7 and 15 μm diameter. β-N-methylamino-l-alanine (BMAA) and isomers: Distribution in different food web compartments of Thau lagoon, French Mediterranean Sea ArchiMer

The neurotoxin BMAA (β-N-methylamino-l-alanine) and its isomer DAB (2,4-diaminobutyric acid) have been detected in seafood worldwide, including in Thau lagoon (French Mediterranean Sea). A cluster of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease associated with BMAA, has also been observed in this region. Mussels, periphyton (i.e. biofilms attached to mussels) and plankton were sampled between July 2013 and October 2014, and analyzed using HILIC-MS/MS. BMAA, DAB and AEG (N-(2-aminoethyl)glycine) were found in almost all the samples of the lagoon.
